FRUITFUL SERVICE

FRUITFUL SERVICE

The theme for church school is taken from the General Theme of the 24th General
assembly “I WILL SERVE THE LORD.” (Joshua 24:15). As we serve the
Lord faithfully we shall surely have fruitful service. Fruitful service is making a
positive, lasting impact through our actions.

Jeremiah 17:5-7 offers profound insights into trust and its consequences, which
can be linked to the idea of fruitful service. This passage emphasizes the futility of
relying solely on human strength and wisdom. In the context of service, this means
recognizing that genuine, impactful service stems from trusting in God’s guidance
and provision rather than relying solely on our abilities. Those who trust in human
strength are likened to a bush in the wastelands, highlighting a lack of prosperity
and fruitfulness. Conversely, those who place their trust in God are blessed and
compared to a tree planted by the water—symbolizing stability, nourishment, and
fruitfulness.

The story of the talents from the New Testament further illuminates this principle.
In this parable, a master entrusts his servants with different amounts of money
(talents) before leaving on a journey. Upon his return, the servants who had invest
ed their talents and produced more were praised and rewarded. However, the servant

who buried his talent out of fear and distrust was reprimanded and his talent
taken away.

This parable teaches us about the importance of using our gifts and resources faith
fully and proactively. Trusting in God’s guidance, like the faithful servants, leads to
growth and multiplication of our efforts. The unfaithful servant’s fear and lack of
trust resulted in unfruitfulness, much like the bush in the wastelands described in
Jeremiah.

Key Elements of Fruitful Service

  1. Finding our purpose.
Fruitful service begins with a clear understanding of one’s purpose, driven by faith
and a deep sense of responsibility.
  2. Commitment to our call
Fruitful service requires dedication and effort even when faced with challenges.
This persistent commitment leads to significant and lasting results.
  3. Integrity
Fruitful service must be in a context of high integrity. That doing the right thing
    despite the circumstances.

In essence, fruitful service is about trusting in God, acting with integrity and excel
lence, making a positive impact, fostering personal growth, and achieving spiritual
fulfillment. By aligning our actions with faith and divine purpose, we can ensure
that our service is genuinely impactful and blessed.
