When we abide in the Lord and He continues working on us, we are bound to grow from level to level. However, most Christians have not allowed themselves to be transformed by the power of God. In the Potters hands we shall grow.
What does it take to grow? A young man once asked a pastor, “How can I become a strong Christian?” The pastor took him to a small garden and pointed to a seedling. “Do you see that tree?” he asked. “It grew strong not by wishing for it, but by consistently receiving sunlight, water, and nourishment, day by day.” In 2 Peter 3:18, believers are urged to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Spiritual growth is not always explained to new believers, leaving many unaware of how to develop their relationship with God. Peter emphasizes that growth requires action, and God provides the tools needed for godliness (2 Peter 1:3). However, it is the believer’s responsibility to apply these teachings in their lives.
In 2 Peter 1:5-7, believers are instructed to add virtues to their faith: goodness,
knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. The Bible outlines principles for spiritual growth: Romans 12:2 urges believers to renew their minds by focusing on thoughts that
honour God. Meditation on Scripture helps apply its truths to life.
Spiritual growth requires admitting sins rather than denying them. 1 John 1:9 encourages believers to confess sins, which leads to forgiveness and purification.
True repentance goes beyond acknowledgment of sin and involves a commitment to change direction. Acts 26:20 teaches that repentance must be shown in actions, producing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Ultimately, God’s goal is for believers to become more Christ-like. This transformation occurs when believers, through faith, obey God’s commands and apply His principles in their lives. Spiritual maturity is a continuous process of growth and change.
