PCEA Thome church is situated at 700 meters off Thika Super High way, 6 Kilometers from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. It is a cosmopolitan congregation that conducts her two services in English and Kiswahili to cater for the diverse needs of its members. It is planted on an acre plot with a magnificent structure and 6 personnel who assist in running the church.
The church was born in 1995 by Githurai Church on realizing that a number of its members who travelled from Thome and Garden Estate areas were experiencing difficulties in reaching Githurai every Sunday for worship. The initial membership of about twenty persons worshipped under a wall-less structure of a canvas roof supported on cedar posts and sitting on wooden forms. As the membership grew, Thome church embarked on acquiring plots for church expansion and in total acquired five plots and has erected a beautiful sanctuary in one of the plots. Its of paramount importance to note that due to this notable growth, the church was elevated to a parish status in March 2010 an activity that saw the dedication of Thome Church on 19th March 2011 by the Rt. Rev. David R. Gathanju, the Moderator of the 19th General Assembly.
Thome church is the mother of giant PCEA Gateway church that took almost 70% of its membership during the inauguration of the church in the year 2005. The development left the famous Thome church with less than 100 members but has since grown to about 300 members. The church is currently recording encouraging numerical, spiritual and physical growth where it has acquired two plots within a span of 2 years at a cost of 13 million.
